This is one newish car I’d love to own, a 2019 Mercedes E63s wagon. This one belongs to a friend, and is immaculate. It touts a 603 hp twin turbo V8, perfect for grocery store runs. And, with the seats folded down, two bikes can easily slide into the back. It may be a touch more than just a utilitarian vehicle, but count me in.

Today’s car pictures. Cool Lancia, fancy fender work, Citroen headlight, a favorite Porsche, a Ford hot rod wheel, and for contrast, an Alpina wheel.

A quick getaway to my favorite spot in California. Always a pleasure staring up at Whitney and stargazing at night.

The sun is rising on the back side of the Sign. Summer must be near.

Exploring the southern edge of the Central Valley over the weekend. Lots to see, and an amazing meal at the Cuyama Buckhorn.

Cars still feature heavily in Monterey during the Sea Otter Cycling Festival. It is a raceway after all. I always enjoy my yearly trip here, and I managed one very solid ride to just south of the Carmel Highlands.

After 11,878 miles, I can assuredly say the Open U.P.P.E.R. is an amazing bike. I can’t wait to ride the updated U.P.P.E.R. to see what possible improvements have been made. It’s hard to imagine the ride could get any better, but knowing the team at Open, I’m guessing it will.

Went to go see the stars, watch Flanders, and eat tacos. What a wonderful overnight trip. Thank you to Julia for the cool night shot of the van. And for those of you passing through Mojave, Fatboys Taco is the spot for the best ever birria tacos.

Excited for the M5 and Haley featured together in the latest Petrolicious video. It was a fun experience, and I loved combining my two passions into one video. Link in bio.

Another beautiful morning at the Sign. And to top it off, a small world connection was made, as I discovered someone I’ve been saying hi to for months was a close friend of my mom. Amazingly typical LA story. In a city of millions, LA can still feel like a small town. Lastly, @ceramicspeed , I think my Haley would be a great candidate for the new OSPW on the XPLR derailleur.

Quick escape to the desert for a visit to the Palm Springs Museum of Art for the Hockney exhibit. Then we explored the Palms to Pine Highway and slept at Pinion Flat campground. Great spot for a quick night. Today we went for a pre-pancake hike at Apple Canyon through San Jacinto.

The Haley went from having a dinner plate sized cassette to a salad plate sized cassette. The change is good, though I may need to update the front chainring for an easier climbing gear.

Walked up to the first switchback on Whitney Portal Road. Absolutely beautiful and dead silent other than a few singing birds. Had fun driving the van up to the gate. The tires and 4x4 make it easy.

Snow! Tuttle Creek Campground had a light dusting this morning. A beautiful way to wake up in the high desert under the shadow of Mt Whitney.

Friday, 1/24/25. There was something odd in the sky this am. First photo courtesy of Michelle and Margo. No idea what was up with this, but I can say this morning was as clear as it gets over LA.

The Sign is open, so I decided on a sunrise ride to survey our city. Hard to see much due to the fog, but glad to see they are aggressively clearing brush all around the climb to the Sign. Love riding the titanium Haley, especially on the rough pavement. In our massive clean out of the attic, I found the old, but still cool, House Industries bottles.
