New from Coldsmoke are the Innak Biking Shorts. These are made from Schoeller stretch canvas finished with R3 technology. The material is unique in that the outside is water repellent, while the inside is water absorbent. The combination should do wonders for keeping you cool on hot summer days. Another benefit of the material is its ability to prevent perspiration marks, a benefit that will be appreciated by the urban rider. Other bike friendly features on the Innak shorts are zippable leg vents, easy access stash pockets, and an ultrasuede waistband to prevent chafing. And, to top it all off, the shorts are produced in North America. I am happy to see Coldsmoke stepping into the biking category with such a strong showing. I look forward to seeing more.

Another great reason to attend the April 6th edition of CicLAvia is this installation by Jay Mark Johnson. This is sponsored by MOPLA (Month of Photography, Los Angeles), and is taking place in front of 5900 Wilshire Boulevard.
In conjunction with the April 6th CicLAvia’s bicycle route of Wilshire Boulvard and with support of the Miracle Mile Chamber, join us for a featured photographic installation by celebrated Los Angeles Artist, Jay Mark Johnson, in front of 5900 Wilshire building. The photographic installation will showcase images of cycling cultures from Los Angeles and Siem Reap, in celebration of the global, cultural interchange and MOPLA’s 2014 theme of Communites + Cultures: Focus on Asia.

In two weeks time, the 2014 edition of Paris-Roubaix will be underway. For me, this is the true beginning of the cycling season, and one of my favorite races. I’ll be at Sea Otter during the race, so I hope someone will have a TV tuned in. The photo credit is © / A.S.O. / B.Bade.

This is a pretty cool project from Stanridge Cycles, and it will be raced at the Red Hook Crit this coming Saturday, the 29th.
Ohio based Stanridge Cycles is excited to announce the arrival of Katie Arnold to the team as it heads into it’s 3rd season competing in the Red Hook Crit Series. Arnold will join previous Red Hook winner and Cat 1/Pro, Evan Murphy at the start line in NYC this weekend.
This years Red Hook Crit program began in October of last year while in Shoreditch, London visiting Deathspray Custom. Ben Eine’s work on Mother London caught the eye of Stanridge Cycles Owner Adam Eldridge. After returning to the states Ben was contacted and it was on. Ben hand painted both frames for the event.
This year Enve Composites, Paul Components and Vittoria Tires have joined as new team sponsors while Endo Custom remains as the jersey maker. Riders will use a variation of the iconic Stanridge HSP MkII (pictured) during the series to showcase a team that competes at the highest level of fixed crit racing.
“I enjoy creating bikes for this series. Having these frames used under race conditions means much more to me than hanging them on display at a bike show. They’ll get beat up, scratched and used which is perfectly fine with me”. – Adam Eldridge, Owner of Stanridge Cycles.

I love this Bicycle poster available from Pop Chart Lab.

This is an event that took place at the Institut Lumière in Lyon, France. How I wish I had been there to attend.

This week I received the Full Metal Fenders from Portland Design Works. I’ve been looking for a set of fenders for the Bianchi Valle I am putting together, and the Full Metal Fenders looked like the best option. Despite it never raining in LA, we still encounter the occasional sprinkler that creates a river we must forge, and without fenders, a dress shirt will suffer. I’ve used different fenders in the past, and I admit, most do a good job at keeping the water and muck at bay. However, the installation and subsequent use tend to be an issue. Some are incredibly difficult to install properly, a seemingly simple job made difficult by unnecessarily complex instructions. The Full Metal Fenders avoid this problem with their well thought out design, and one of the most straightforward instruction manuals I’ve seen. It is a passport sized booklet with clear and concise directions anyone should be able to follow. Once installed, the real joy will become apparent. I rode the Bianchi to work yesterday, and pretty much hit every bump and pothole in my path. I wanted to suss out how well the fenders hold up in rough conditions, not a problem to find here in LA. My initial impression was one of disbelief. The fenders are absolutely dead silent. Not one rattle, shimmy or shake. Once at work I performed the drop test, just a gentle drop of the bike onto the pavement, and still no sound whatsoever. The Full Metal Fenders from Portland Design Works are by far the best fenders I’ve had the opportunity to try. These are really well designed, and will complement any bike.

Pretty cool cup holder from Bookman. For the commuter that needs their coffee on the go.
