NAHBS

Looking forward to the NAHBS this upcoming weekend. The preview bikes I’ve seen so far are amazing, so the show should be quite a sight.

Kontact Anatomical Saddle

I received the Kontact Anatomical Saddle the other day, and am very anxious to get some miles on it. I admit I am a snob when it comes to saddles, and have a hard time with the supposed comfort saddles. They are usually heavy, and more importantly really ugly. This saddle seems to break that trend with a light weight of 190 grams, and very good design and looks. If it’s as comfortable as promised, this saddle could be a keeper. I will report back once I’ve spent some time with it.

Kalavinka

This post is a bit of a cheat, as it’s actually an apology. The apology is for neglecting Velospeak over the past couple of weeks. I am in the midst of the busiest time of year at my work, and it’s been busier than usual. So, after February 26th, the posts will gradually start rolling back in. In the meantime, here is a photo of the build sheet for my Kalavinka. Every bicycle Akio Tanabe builds, is posted on the site. It is great fun going through each and every build. It’s very easy to get lost in the world of Kalavinka.

World Cycle Racing Grand Tour

The World Cycle Racing Grand Tour begins Saturday February 18th. Twelve riders will depart on that day for an 18,000 mile race around the globe. The website allows you to follow the riders in real time once the race is underway. This looks to be a particularly grueling race, and a fascinating race to keep tabs on as well.

Mariclaro

This backpack is from a company based in Toronto, Canada called Mariclaro. They specialize in sustainable design focusing on accessories. This particular backpack is made from airbags that have already been deployed. Once an airbag deploys, it is unusable in a car, but the fabric is still strong and usable for a myriad of items. I believe this is the first time I’ve heard of anybody using this material, and it seems very innovative. Looking through their website, I also discovered that it is possible to have a bag made from leather from a specific automobile, i.e.. a Mercedes or Lincoln. They feature a photo of the car with the available items that can be made from it. Like Freitag, this means all their items are unique, and it also allows you to create something with your input. Very good ideas all around.

Incase Range

Incase is close to releasing the new Range Collection. The collection consists of two backpacks, two messenger bags, and an iPhone holder. The large Range Backpack is the item that interests me most as it has a laptop sleeve with separate access from the side, as well as a cycling friendly U-Lock pocket and safety light attachment. This bag should be large enough to hold all I carry on my daily commute. I hope to try and review the Range in the near future.
