It seems it will be more widely available in the future, but for now, there is a sign-up for a wait list position. Today is the first day of 2016. Not being particularly fond of celebrating New Years Eve, last night I came to realize that it is not so much about celebrating the New Year, but more of a reason to pause to reflect on the good and bad of the past 12 months. In the hectic lifestyle we all lead, it is easy to run a million miles an hour without pausing to think about what you have done and are doing. The New Years celebration is a perfect time to do that, and it helps if you are lucky enough to be somewhere beautiful to do so. 2016 promises to be an interesting year, full of changes and new possibilities. Here’s to embracing change and opening the doors to new and exciting adventures. Happy New Year!
The temperatures have finally cooled in Los Angeles, and the time to take stock of cold weather gear, both old and new, has arrived. Falling squarely in the “new” category is a piece from Isadore Apparel. The Merino Membrane Vest arrived several months ago, but the weather in LA wasn’t cooperating, and I was only able to start using it last month. Since its inaugural ride, the vest has become a go to part of my cycling kit. The first time I put it on, it felt as if I was sliding my core into a warm and perfectly fitted glove. The materials used are just thick enough to feel substantial, but thin enough to allow for the type of movement necessary on the bike. The outside of the vest has a water and windproof membrane that is incredibly resistant. I’ve not had the chance to try it in rain, but the windproof characteristics are amazing. (more…)

Sunday’s ride was one of those perfect rides. It started off feeling a bit complicated the day before, as I was working out the details of where and when to meet two friends along the way. But, I came up with a plan, and the next morning set off on a beautiful crisp day. I rode up to the base of Nichols Canyon at Hollywood Boulevard to meet one friend. (more…)
Swiza, a Swiss company with a 110 year history, has re-imagined the Swiss Army knife with the introduction of the D0 Series. The knife has updated features such as a locking blade manufactured from 440 stainless steel, hardened to 57 HRc. The decorative Swiss cross marks the spot for the blade’s release button. The new knives can accommodate either a right handed or left handed person, and are available in four versions and four different colors. In the last year or so, I’ve often thought about the benefits of monitoring my heart rate while cycling, but, one solid reason against doing it, is the cumbersome design of the chest strap monitoring systems on the market. Here is where the Mio Fuse comes into play. This is a wrist mounted heart rate monitor that can connect via Bluetooth or ANT+ to virtually any computer on the market. The pant promises a full range of mobility in a fabric that is moisture absorbing, anti-bacterial and odor resistant.
